Ever wondered who's eligible for dental grants in Ontario? Well, it's open to both new and existing patients who are legal residents of Ontario and have reached the age of majority. But, there are exceptions. If you're an employee or contractor of the sponsors, or an immediate family member of, or living with such individuals, you're not eligible.
If you're a new patient, you may need to undergo a new patient exam, including x-rays, especially if you haven't had a dental exam in the last 6 months. This is crucial for the dentist to carry out any dental procedures safely. The good news? If you're required to do this exam, you can use the grant award towards it and any leftover funds for additional dental procedures.

The program you're eyeing offers support depending on your annual net income. If you're a single senior, your annual net income must be $22,200 or less. For a couple, the combined annual net income must not exceed $37,100.
This information is verified using the Social Insurance Number you provide upon applying. Don’t worry if you're without a SIN, there's a separate procedure in place for applicants like you which you can learn about on the program website.

There's an age limit to keep in mind here. You need to be 65 years of age or older to be considered for dental grants in Ontario.
Another caveat: You must lack any other form of dental benefits. This includes private insurance or dental coverage under another government program such as Ontario Works, Ontario Disability Support Program or Non-Insured Health Benefits.
Remember, it's pivotal to bear in mind that these grants are awarded within the boundary of prevailing federal, provincial, and local laws, rules, and regulations. Do your due diligence, make sure you tick all the right boxes and make your application count!
Selected applicants will have to take a free screening exam which will determine their complete care plan. The choice to proceed with the care plan is entirely up to you, and not choosing to proceed will only mean forfeiture of the grant. If your care plan is valued at more than $1,000, you'd be required to cover the additional costs.

You're expected to keep to your appointment, or provide a 48 hours advance notice if you can't make it.
It's just as important to remember while the initial consultation is typically non-chargeable, the full dental exam and X-ray services may require you to spend between $100 and $366, depending on your case complexity.
Documentation is key. Once you're conditionally approved for the grant —usually via an email— you'll have to sign a waiver permitting the use of your photos and stories for promotional purposes. But, discretion is assured as name changes are allowed to maintain your privacy.
Keep in mind; the grant covers dental costs exceeding $500. But it won't serve as payment for settling previously completed treatments or for treatments close to completion.
